LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard is expected to make his return on Sunday when the team faces the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Leonard has been sidelined for the Clippers’ last nine contests due to a sprained ankle and a foot injury, leaving the team without its top two-way player during a difficult stretch.
Before Leonard suits up again, the Clippers will try to halt a three-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon against the Charlotte Hornets.
The team enters that matchup with a 4-11 record, and they’ve struggled significantly in Leonard’s absence, going just 1-8 in the games he has missed this season.
Leonard had been playing at a high level prior to getting hurt, offering production reminiscent of his All-NBA peak.
Through the Clippers’ first six games, the veteran forward averaged 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals, showing strong efficiency and his usual defensive impact before the ankle and foot issues forced him out of action.
