The Sacramento Kings are reportedly considering signing veteran forward Precious Achiuwa to help address their frontcourt depth, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
However, as Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints notes, the team would likely have to waive Isaac Jones to make room on the roster if a deal is reached.
Sacramento has struggled early in the season, starting 2–4, and has been noticeably undersized at the power forward position.
Head coach Mike Brown has been relying on smaller lineups, with DeMar DeRozan often playing as a makeshift “4,” while Domantas Sabonis remains the team’s only consistent interior presence.
The situation has been further complicated by Keegan Murray’s absence due to a thumb injury, leaving Sabonis as the lone frontcourt player averaging more than 3.2 points per game.
The Kings’ front office views Achiuwa as a potential solution to their size and rebounding issues.
A 26-year-old forward-center, Achiuwa was selected 20th overall by the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Draft and has since played for the Heat, Raptors, and Knicks.
Over 320 career regular-season games, he has averaged 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game. Last season, he appeared in 57 games for New York, starting 10.
Achiuwa signed a non-guaranteed deal with Miami this fall but was released before the regular season began. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the move was financially driven.
“It is tough, especially because we spent time with him four years ago, it felt like we wanted to keep that going,” Spoelstra explained. “But that’s just where we are right now with the roster. We’ll have to see what happens in the future.”
In four preseason games with Miami, Achiuwa averaged 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 11.7 minutes per outing.
