Brandon Williams scored 20 points as the Dallas Mavericks edged the Indiana Pacers 107-105 on Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks finished their season-opening five-game homestand with a win, despite losing Anthony Davis to leg soreness early in the game.
Dwight Powell added 18 points while Cooper Flagg posted 15 points and 10 rebounds, giving Dallas a season-high 64 points from the bench. The Mavericks overcame a 14-point deficit late in the second quarter with a 29-19 third period to take control.
The Pacers were led by Pascal Siakam, who scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Jarace Walker, who posted a career-high 20 points. Indiana shot a season-low 34.9% from the field and missed several key free throws down the stretch.
Aaron Nesmith had a chance to win it for the Pacers after grabbing an offensive rebound with 3.4 seconds left, but his three-pointer missed, sealing Dallas’ narrow victory. The Pacers are now 0-4 for the first time since the 1988-89 season.
Williams scored his first points of the season after missing two games following an arrest for marijuana possession.
The Mavericks will play their first road game of the season on Friday against the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City. Indiana begins a four-game homestand on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks.
