The Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler have reached a settlement agreement over fines tied to his multiple team-imposed suspensions last season, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The player reportedly recovered about half of the $6 million in salary he forfeited while still with the Miami Heat.
The deal followed a grievance filed by the players’ union on Butler’s behalf.
Both sides were said to be satisfied with the outcome, which acknowledged that the Heat were within their rights to suspend him, while the forward was “reasonable in questioning the degree of the sanctions.”
Butler was disciplined several times during the 2024–25 season for conduct detrimental to the team, rule violations, and ultimately “withholding services” amid his trade request.
Under the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, he lost more than $6 million for 14 games of suspension before being dealt to the Golden State Warriors.
Such settlements aren’t unusual – Winderman noted that Ben Simmons reached a similar agreement with the 76ers in 2021–22.
Butler, now focused on his new chapter with Golden State, opened his first full season with a strong performance, scoring 31 points and hitting all 16 free throws in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
