The Miami Heat have waived Precious Achiuwa ahead of the regular season, according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald. Ethan Thompson, Dain Dainja, and Bez Mbeng have also been released.

All four were on non-guaranteed training camp contracts, so Miami won’t have any salary on the books after cutting them.

Achiuwa, a 6’8″ forward/center, was drafted 20th overall by the Heat in 2020. Now 26, he has played 320 NBA games with Miami, Toronto, and New York, averaging 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20.0 minutes per game.

He remained unsigned most of the offseason and rejoined the Heat in late September. His next destination is currently unknown.

Thompson, Dainja, and Mbeng were on Exhibit 10 deals and are eligible for bonuses up to $85,300 if they spend at least 60 days with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s G League affiliate.

With these moves, Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel notes that Jahmir Young is expected to take the Heat’s final two-way spot. Miami can convert his Exhibit 10 deal directly into a two-way contract.

Young, an undrafted 6’1″ guard from Maryland, played in the G League last season with Grand Rapids and later on a two-way deal with the Bulls.

He saw limited NBA minutes but averaged 21.7 points, 7.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in 43 G League games. He was named to the G League All-Rookie Team and finished third in Rookie of the Year voting.
