While the Knicks are preparing to waive Garrison Mathews ahead of Saturday’s roster deadline, another notable move came from Brooklyn. The Nets have officially signed Hunter Cattoor, as reported by Brian Lewis of The New York Post.

Cattoor, a 6’3″ guard, played five collegiate seasons at Virginia Tech before going undrafted in 2024.

Known primarily for his perimeter shooting and floor-spacing ability, the 24-year-old then took his first professional step overseas, joining BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in France’s top division.

Across 25 games there, he averaged 8.5 points per game and hit 37.2% of his three-point attempts, showcasing the shooting skill that made him stand out in college.

Following his season in France, Cattoor appeared in the NBA Summer League with Cleveland in Las Vegas, using that platform to earn further attention from teams needing shooting depth.

His signing with Brooklyn suggests the Nets see potential value in his ability to stretch the floor and possibly develop as a specialist within their system.

Meanwhile, on the Knicks’ side, Ian Begley of SNY.tv reported that New York plans to waive Garrison Mathews before Saturday afternoon. Stefan Bondy of The New York Post confirmed the news.

According to Begley, the Knicks were pleased with Mathews’ performance in camp and preseason but will not keep him due to financial constraints.

With the team hard-capped at the second apron and unable to add multiple veterans on minimum deals, Landry Shamet appears to be the one expected to stay after Malcolm Brogdon’s sudden retirement shut down the possibility of a salary-clearing trade.

Begley also noted that Mathews is expected to receive interest from other teams looking for outside shooting help.
