Kristaps Porzingis recently addressed the possibility of a contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks, stating that no deal is imminent.
“I know that’s an option. I wanna see how the year goes,” Porzingis told The Athletic. “I wanna show that I’m playing at a high level again, that I’m healthy, that I’m everything, and then that kind of stuff will take care of itself, you know? We’ll see.”
Porzingis joined the Hawks in a three-team trade this offseason, arriving from the Boston Celtics alongside a second-round pick. The Celtics received Georges Niang and a second-round pick, while the Brooklyn Nets acquired Terance Mann and the 22nd pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
The 30-year-old forward, who is in the final year of a two-year, $60 million deal, played for the Latvian national team at EuroBasket this summer. He said the international competition helped him regain his conditioning.
“I just didn’t have the engine that I usually have. … As soon as I got some rest and got back in shape with the national team, I’m feeling great,” Porzingis said. “I feel awesome now.”
Porzingis has averaged 19.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game over his 501-game NBA career. His peak seasons included 23.2 points per game with Washington in 2022–23 and 20.4 points per game with Dallas in 2019–20.
In playoff appearances, Porzingis has posted 11.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, contributing to multiple postseason runs with Dallas and Boston. His performance in Boston last season was limited, as he averaged just 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds across 11 games.
