Chicago Bulls guard Coby White is expected to miss most of the preseason, with head coach Billy Donovan saying his debut is “probably” unlikely.

Donovan added that White’s calf likely feels good enough to play, but medical staff are not comfortable with the limited ramp-up time.

White, entering the final year of his three-year, $36 million contract, had a breakout 2024–25 season, averaging 20.4 points and 4.5 assists over 79 games.

Despite his strong performance, the Bulls missed the playoffs, finishing 39–43.

The team has been closely monitoring his recovery, with Donovan noting that White has been running and shooting in practice.

The Bulls remain hopeful he could appear in the final preseason game and be ready for the regular season opener.

Sources told the Chicago Sun-Times that both White and the organization aim to finalize a long-term deal next summer, though immediate agreement is unlikely.

League chatter indicates White could seek a contract exceeding $30 million annually, which would place him among the NBA’s highest-paid guards.

The Bulls are 2–1 in preseason play, with victories over Cleveland and a loss to Milwaukee, as they continue to fine-tune rotations ahead of the 2025–26 season.
