Chicago Bulls guard Coby White is entering the final year of his three-year, $36 million contract and has made it clear he will explore unrestricted free agency next summer, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

White enjoyed a breakout 2024–25 season, averaging 20.4 points and 4.5 assists across 79 games, but the Bulls missed the playoffs after a 39–43 finish.

White has been progressing in his recovery, running and shooting, Bulls coach Donovan said. The team is hopeful he could play in the last preseason game and be ready for the start of the regular season.

Sources tell Cowley that both White and the Bulls want to finalize a long-term deal next summer. While both sides are exercising caution regarding his return, they hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

League chatter suggests White could seek a contract exceeding $30 million per season, potentially making him one of the NBA’s highest-paid guards. Chicago’s current salary cap constraints, however, make an immediate high-value extension difficult.

White’s decision to wait until free agency reflects a focus on securing a maximum-value deal. The timing of his next contract is particularly crucial given a crowded Bulls backcourt and teammate Ayo Dosunmu also headed for unrestricted free agency next summer.
