The New Orleans Pelicans have made more roster moves ahead of the season, officially parting ways with forwards Garrison Brooks and Jalen McDaniels. As the team confirmed, “The Pelicans have cut Exhibit 10 training camp signings Garrison Brooks and Jalen McDaniels.”

Both players had come in on Exhibit 10 agreements, which typically serve as a pipeline toward the G League. That makes it very likely they will now head to the Birmingham Squadron, New Orleans’ affiliate.

Under the terms of the deal, “if Brooks and McDaniels remain with Birmingham for at least 60 days, each player will be eligible for a bonus worth up to $85,300 on top of his standard NBAGL salary.”

Brooks, age 26, is still in the early stages of his professional journey. After going undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2022, he began with a domestic G League stint for the Westchester Knicks.

Since then, he has sought opportunities overseas, suiting up in both Korea and Lithuania.

McDaniels, 27, brings considerably more NBA experience. A former second-round pick at No. 52 overall in 2019, he broke into the league with Charlotte and spent three-and-a-half years there.

“The older brother of All-Defensive Timberwolves wing Jaden McDaniels” has since made the rounds, appearing on the rosters of Philadelphia, Toronto, Sacramento, San Antonio, and Washington.

However, after his Hornets tenure ended, the only clubs where he logged regular season floor time were the Sixers, Raptors, and Wizards.

All told, the San Diego State product has suited up in 252 NBA contests. Over that span, he “boasts averages of 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest, with a shooting line of .449/.322/.777.”
