Veteran center Kevon Looney has joined the New Orleans Pelicans, ending a 10-year stint with the Golden State Warriors. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Looney agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with the Pelicans.

Looney, 29, spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors after being drafted in 2015. Over 599 regular-season games, he averaged 5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and maintained a .575 field goal percentage. Known for his defensive presence and durability, Looney played a key role in Golden State’s multiple championship runs.

During the 2024-25 season, Looney appeared in 76 games with limited starts, contributing 4.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. His playoff experience includes 89 games, where he averaged 5.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.

The Pelicans finished the 2024-25 season with a 21-61 record, placing 14th in the Western Conference. Adding a seasoned big man like Looney could help strengthen New Orleans’ frontcourt as they look to improve their standing.

Looney was on the final year of a three-year, $22.5 million deal with Golden State before agreeing to the new contract. The move signals a fresh chapter for the center after a decade with the Warriors.

New Orleans has been focusing on rebuilding around young talents such as rookie Jeremiah Fears, who was drafted seventh overall in 2025.
