Bradley Beal is preparing for a fresh start with the Los Angeles Clippers after signing a two-year, $11 million contract this offseason. He said he is open to embracing a larger defensive role as the team gears up for the 2025–26 season.
“Just being a pest, being that mentality every single night, no matter who you have to defend… that’s something I’ve been willing to do,” Beal said during Clippers training camp. “I’m definitely in that mindset of being more open to doing it a lot more now, for sure.”
Beal highlighted the importance of accountability and team chemistry in early training camp sessions. He praised the veteran leadership and work ethic across the roster, saying it sets the tone for both young and experienced players.
He also discussed reuniting with longtime friend and trainer Jesse Briscoe, noting that their past work together was a key factor in his decision to join the Clippers. “Nobody knew my body better than myself and he did,” Beal said. “It’s great to be able to see the success that he’s had here as well.”
The three-time All-Star acknowledged the value of defensive contributions beyond scoring. “We have a lot of guys who can put the ball in the basket, but it’s about who wants to take that sacrifice and defend,” he added.
Beal emphasized that the Clippers’ pace and identity are key priorities for the upcoming season. “We want to play with freedom, and we want to retain our defense while keeping the offensive efficiency that works,” he said.
Training camp has allowed Beal to quickly acclimate to the team’s system, focusing on live scrimmages and game-like reps. He noted the high level of engagement and competitiveness among players as a motivating factor in his preparation.
