One of the more revealing aspects of the Toronto Raptors’ scrimmage, as Michael Grange of Sportsnet pointed out, was the way head coach Darko Rajakovic organized his rotations.

The starting five came as no surprise: Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett shared the backcourt, with Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes on the wings and Jakob Poeltl anchoring the middle.

That unit, built around versatility and size, looks to be Toronto’s clear first-choice lineup heading into the season.

Where things got more intriguing was in the second unit. Rajakovic rolled out a group of Jamal Shead, Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, Collin Murray-Boyles, and Sandro Mamukelashvili.

That combination blended defense, shooting, and energy while giving younger players like Dick and Murray-Boyles valuable developmental minutes.

The ripple effect, however, is that not everyone saw floor time. Rookie Ja’Kobe Walter, the 19th pick in the 2024 draft, found himself on the outside looking in, along with Jamison Battle and Jonathan Mogbo.

All three played consistent roles last season, each averaging at least 17 minutes per game, but with the additions of Ingram and Murray-Boyles – and the expectation of a fully healthy Quickley – the battle for rotation minutes has become much tighter.
