Malcolm Brogdon has joined the New York Knicks on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 contract, determined to earn his spot in training camp.

The nine-year veteran guard said he chose the Knicks over other NBA opportunities because of their fit and championship aspirations.

“I come here with the expectation I’m going to make the team,” Brogdon told The New York Daily News.

“I feel what I bring to the table and have to offer, I can help this team. The decision is out of my control but I feel like I have what it takes to help this team.”

Brogdon, 32, has career averages of 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting .463 from the field, .388 from three, and .874 from the line.

However, injuries have limited him in recent years – he played a career-low 24 games last season.

With Jalen Brunson carrying much of the Knicks’ offensive load last season, New York targeted more backcourt support.

Alongside free agent signing Jordan Clarkson, Brogdon is expected to provide additional ball-handling and steady defense.

“Anything that can take pressure off Jalen is the big goal going forward with this team,” Brogdon said. “That’s what I want to do this year: Take pressure off him on both sides of the ball – and everybody else.”

Head coach Mike Brown will evaluate Brogdon in training camp, where his versatility and ability to adapt to different systems could give him an edge.

“I was really set on being on the Knicks,” Brogdon added.
