Brandon Ingram is entering Toronto Raptors training camp without restrictions, fully recovered from the ankle injury that sidelined him after last season’s trade from New Orleans.

The 28-year-old forward never got the chance to make his Raptors debut following the mid-season deal, but now the team is eager to see him on the court.

General manager Bobby Webster expressed his excitement about what Ingram brings to the roster, noting that his unique skill set fills a void Toronto has felt in recent years.

“He’s one of the few guys who can go get his own shots but also can go get a pretty efficient shot on his own,” Webster told Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun. “I think that’s something that we’ve lacked a bit in prior years.”

Webster praised Ingram’s pure basketball mentality and compared his quiet, focused demeanor to that of a former Raptors superstar.

“He’s like a hooper’s hooper. I think people that watch him and people that have seen film on him (recognize he has a) high, high level of skill. Three-level scorer, not all that interested in what’s going on off the court.

“Not all that interested in what people say about him. We had another guy that was sort of like that (in Kawhi Leonard). But this guy, he just loves playing basketball.”

For Webster, Ingram’s approach and talent make him a joy to have in the organization.

“I think it’s fun to watch him. It’s fun to watch him warm up. It’s fun to watch him play. So we’re excited to see.”
