Grayson Allen is entering his third season with the Phoenix Suns, and he believes the roster changes this summer have reshaped expectations for the franchise.
Speaking during the team’s 2025 Media Day, Allen emphasized confidence in the group assembled under new head coach Jordan Ott.
“I think we’re a better group than what people think we are. I’m pretty confident in this team. I like the team that we have. I think the pieces we have mesh well together. I think it will be a very different identity than we’ve had the last two years I was here,” Allen said.
Phoenix overhauled its roster in the offseason after back-to-back disappointing years. The organization moved on from Bradley Beal and traded Kevin Durant in a seven-team deal that brought back Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and multiple draft assets. The Suns also added size with rookie center Khaman Maluach and acquired Mark Williams to bolster their frontcourt.
The coaching staff was also restructured after Mike Budenholzer was dismissed in April. Ott, formerly an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers, now leads a group that includes DeMarre Carroll, Brian Randle, and Mike Muscala. The Suns are betting on Ott’s player-focused approach to connect with a younger, retooled roster.
Allen’s role has shifted since his breakout 2023–24 campaign, when he started 74 games and led the league in three-point percentage at 46.1 percent. Last season, his minutes decreased to 24.1 per game, but he still averaged 10.6 points while hitting 42.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Now, with a more balanced roster built around Devin Booker and Green, Allen is expected to bring spacing and veteran stability. His ability to stretch defenses has been a consistent weapon, and he enters the season with a career average of 41.4 percent from three-point range.
Owner Mat Ishbia made clear after last season that effort and identity would be priorities moving forward. Allen echoed that message, suggesting this year’s team will not rely solely on star power but instead focus on cohesion and balance.
