The Charlotte Hornets have added forward Keyontae Johnson to their roster, the team announced via Twitter, following the opening of a spot earlier in the day by waiving DaQuan Jeffries.

While specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, the agreement is expected to be a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract.

Such a deal allows Johnson to earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he is waived by Charlotte but then spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.

Johnson is no stranger to Greensboro, as the Swarm already hold his returning rights from last season. In 46 games with the NBAGL team, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 30.5 minutes per outing, shooting an efficient 49.3 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range.

“I’m excited to be back with the Swarm and continue building on last season,” Johnson said. “It’s about proving myself, staying ready, and helping the team win every night.”

The 25-year-old was selected 50th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft and spent his rookie season on a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, appearing in nine NBA regular-season games during the 2023–24 campaign.

With Johnson replacing Jeffries, the Hornets now carry a full 21-man roster.

However, sources indicate that additional moves are likely as the team finalizes its lineup ahead of training camp and the preseason, ensuring that both the NBA squad and its G League affiliate are well-prepared for the upcoming season.
