The Charlotte Hornets have signed former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Keyontae Johnson to a two-way contract.

Johnson’s agency, Priority Sports, announced the signing on August 20, 2024.

Johnson, who was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Thunder, spent last season primarily in the G League.

In nine NBA games with the Thunder, Johnson averaged 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game.

His performance in the G League was more impressive, as he averaged 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 25 games.

Johnson’s journey to the NBA has been marked by perseverance, especially after dealing with significant health issues.

After declaring for the NBA Draft on April 24, 2023, Johnson had to be cleared by the NBA’s Fitness to Play panel due to past heart problems.

Despite these challenges, Johnson remained in the draft and secured a two-way contract with the Thunder on July 7, 2023.

His move to the Hornets represents a new opportunity to showcase his skills at the NBA level.

The 24-year-old forward is expected to split his time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.
