The New York Knicks are taking another look at a familiar face. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, Dennis Smith Jr. is scheduled to work out for the team this week as he looks to re-establish himself in the NBA.
Smith, a former lottery pick, last played in the league during the 2023–24 season with the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 6.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals across 56 games.
After a brief stint with the Wisconsin Herd in December 2024, he signed with Real Madrid in January 2025 but parted ways with the Spanish club just one month later.
The guard, now 27, has logged 326 career NBA games, posting averages of 9.7 points and 4.2 assists. His most productive stretch came during the 2020–21 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, when he scored 19.6 points per game.
Smith also spent time in New York earlier in his career. He played parts of three seasons with the Knicks between 2019 and 2021, though his minutes and production declined over that span.
With Mike Brown entering his first year as head coach, the Knicks continue to evaluate depth options for their backcourt. Jalen Brunson remains the team’s centerpiece at point guard, supported by Miles McBride and rookie Tyler Kolek.
