
“This is Greek fashion,” was Tyler Dorsey’s immediate reaction after Greece edged Finland in the EuroBasket 2025 third-place game. The win brought a bronze medal, but it came the hard way.
Greece had built a commanding 17-point lead with just over four minutes left, only to see Finland storm back and cut the margin to a single point in the closing seconds. The tension was high, but Greece held on.
“We can’t finish the game smoothly, I guess, but this was so special,” said the 29-year-old guard, reflecting on the victory and the significance of finally earning hardware with the national team. “I’ve been having this goal in mind for four years. I started with the national team, and it’s amazing to get the first medal.”
For Dorsey, this accomplishment carried deep personal meaning.
“It means a lot. It’s an amazing feeling. I’m gonna cherish this for the rest of my life,” he said, smiling as he spoke about achieving a long-awaited dream.
The decisive moment came with four seconds left, when Giannis Antetokounmpo calmly sank two free throws to seal the result. Asked if he trusted the NBA superstar at the line, Dorsey laughed and admitted, “Yeah, I did. I was praying too.”
Dorsey had been instrumental throughout the game, scoring nine points in the opening period to establish a double-digit advantage that Greece managed to protect until the late drama.
He finished with 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Across the tournament, he averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.1 blocks over eight appearances between Limassol and Riga.
Looking beyond the bronze medal, Dorsey expressed eagerness to stay committed to the Greek national team: “We got World Cup and Olympics coming in the next couple of years,” he said, signaling his motivation to continue competing at the highest level in international basketball.
