NBA agent Aaron Turner has been awarded his full commission on Derrick Jones Jr.’s contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
An arbitrator ruled that Turner and his agency, Verus Sports, are entitled to the standard 4% fee on Jones’ three-year, $30 million deal signed in July 2024. The decision grants Turner $1.2 million.
The ruling stems from a dispute that began during the 2024 offseason. Jones switched agents while negotiating with multiple teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, before finalizing an agreement with the Clippers.
Despite the change in representation, the arbitrator determined that Turner had performed the necessary duties to warrant his commission under the terms of Jones’ player-agent agreement.
The decision underscores the growing importance of arbitration in settling financial disputes within the NBA’s player representation landscape. Agent changes during contract negotiations are not uncommon, but they often lead to disputes over commissions, especially in multi-year, high-value deals.
Jones, 28, is coming off his first season with the Clippers, where he averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and shot 52.6 percent from the field in 77 appearances. It marked one of the most productive years of his nine-season career.
The forward has previously played for the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers, Chicago Bulls, and Dallas Mavericks. His best postseason stretch came in 2024 with Dallas, where he started every game during their run to the NBA Finals.
Turner, meanwhile, represents a number of NBA players and remains a prominent figure in the agency business. His successful arbitration claim further reinforces the protection agents have under standard NBA and NBPA agreements.
