Quentin Grimes may have offered the clearest sign yet of his NBA future. The restricted free agent posted a photo of himself in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform on his Instagram story, suggesting he plans to stay with the franchise.
The image arrives amid ongoing contract talks that have stretched through the offseason. According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the 76ers have remained confident for weeks that they would reach a new deal with Grimes, though no formal announcement has been made.
Philadelphia views the 25-year-old guard as a top priority. Team president Daryl Morey previously described his negotiations as “the last piece of business” before training camp.
Grimes has a qualifying offer of $8.7 million on the table but is expected to pursue a multi-year contract. Market projections for his next deal have varied widely, with some executives estimating four years at $75 million and others closer to a three-year, $40 million range.
His production following a midseason trade from Dallas strengthened his value. Over 28 games with Philadelphia, Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc.
Head coach Nick Nurse leaned on him as both a perimeter defender and a secondary playmaker, making him an integral part of the team’s late-season push.
Philadelphia’s proximity to the luxury tax apron has complicated negotiations. The team has made smaller signings this summer, adding Trendon Watford and Jabari Walker, but Grimes’ new deal will carry the most financial weight.
League insiders have compared his situation to other restricted free agents, such as Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga, who have also faced delays in securing long-term contracts due to cap dynamics.
Despite the challenges, both sides remain motivated to reach an agreement. Grimes’ social media post only fuels expectations that a deal is imminent.
