The Los Angeles Lakers are positioning themselves for an aggressive 2026 offseason, with multiple wings and forwards discussed internally as potential targets, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

McMenamin reported that unrestricted free agents who have been discussed include Andrew Wiggins and Tari Eason, while Tobias Harris, Quentin Grimes and Dean Wade fit the same profile. The Lakers have also privately discussed restricted free agent Peyton Watson, who could become attainable if Denver declines to match an offer sheet.

Los Angeles entered All-Star the break at 33-21, fifth in the Western Conference. Luka Doncic is averaging 32.8 points and 8.6 assists, while Austin Reaves has emerged as a 25.4-point scorer on 50.8% from the field and 36.3% from three.

LeBron James, 41, remains productive at 22.0 points and 7.1 assists, but the roster’s long-term structure depends on wing depth, perimeter defense and two-way versatility.

Eason, 24, is averaging 12.2 points and 6.1 rebounds for Houston while shooting 46.0% from three in 31 games. His defensive activity, including 1.3 steals per game, aligns with the Lakers’ need for length around Doncic and Reaves.

Watson, 23, is averaging 14.9 points on 49.6% shooting and 41.7% from beyond the arc for Denver, along with 1.2 blocks per game. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent in summer.

Harris is posting 13.4 points and shooting 35.4% from three for Detroit, the top team in the East at 40-13. His $26.6 million salary expires this summer, and his 87.9% free-throw shooting adds late-game reliability.

Grimes is averaging 12.7 points and 3.6 assists in Philadelphia while playing nearly 30 minutes per night. Wade provides frontcourt spacing and defense for Cleveland, contributing 5.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in a rotation role.

From a cap standpoint, the Lakers project between $38 million and $51 million in space, depending on player options and cap holds. The 2026-27 salary cap is projected at $166 million, with the first apron at $210.7 million.

Doncic’s $51 million salary anchors the books, while Reaves, Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart hold player options. James and Rui Hachimura are unrestricted free agents, and renouncing cap holds could create flexibility.

The Lakers also control tradable first-round picks in 2026, 2031 and 2033, giving the front office optionality in both free agency and sign-and-trade scenarios.
