The Minnesota Timberwolves are working to finalize a deal that would bring guard Bones Hyland back for the upcoming season.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Minnesota is actively navigating the financial details required to keep the 24-year-old, who ended last year on a two-way contract.

Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic recently reported that Hyland is expected to fill the Wolves’ final roster spot, with a formal agreement likely closer to September. His return would solidify backcourt depth as the team prepares to defend its Western Conference Finals run.

Hyland appeared in four games with Minnesota late last season. His quick release and ability to create shots off the dribble gave the Timberwolves a different offensive dimension in limited minutes.

The guard has also been drawing attention overseas. EuroLeague clubs Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos pursued him this summer, with reports of a significant financial offer from Serbia. Despite that interest, Hyland has prioritized an NBA return.

Minnesota has explored other guard options, including Malcolm Brogdon, Cam Payne, and Landry Shamet, but Hyland’s familiarity with the system and upside made him the preferred choice. His ability to play both on and off the ball fits well alongside Anthony Edwards and the team’s second unit.

Hyland’s best NBA stretch came during the 2022–23 season when he averaged 11.8 points and 3.1 assists across 77 games with the Nuggets and Clippers. For his career, he has logged 186 regular-season appearances, averaging 9.5 points and 2.6 assists in 17.1 minutes.
