Bones Hyland is in line to claim the Minnesota Timberwolves’ last open roster spot, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Krawczynski indicated that while the move may not be finalized until September, the plan is for the 24-year-old guard to remain with Minnesota heading into the 2025–26 season.
The Timberwolves explored several backcourt options this summer, including Malcolm Brogdon, Cam Payne, and Landry Shamet. Ultimately, Hyland’s familiarity with the system and upside as a scorer have positioned him as the frontrunner.
Hyland finished the 2024–25 season on a two-way contract with the Wolves, appearing in four games. His minutes were limited, but his quick scoring ability and long-range shooting caught the attention of the coaching staff.
The Newark, Delaware native has drawn interest overseas, with EuroLeague contenders Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos pursuing him. Italian journalist Matteo Andreani reported that Crvena Zvezda even made a “significant offer” to lure him to Serbia.
Despite the overseas push, Hyland’s likely return to Minnesota gives him another opportunity to establish a role in the NBA. His best season came in 2022–23, when he averaged 11.8 points and 3.1 assists while splitting time between Denver and Los Angeles.
In four seasons, Hyland has played 186 regular-season games with the Nuggets, Clippers, and Timberwolves, averaging 9.5 points and 2.6 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. He also has 13 playoff appearances on his résumé, though his postseason minutes have been limited.
