Steph Curry believes the Golden State Warriors’ veteran core, including Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, can still contend for an NBA title. He highlighted the team’s experience and chemistry as key factors in their competitiveness.

In an interview with ABC7 News Bay Area, Curry was asked “Can three guys over the age of 35 really contend for a championship?”

“We’re going to find out. I think we can. There’s a level of know-how,” Curry replied, via HoopsHype. He pointed to the team’s performance after the trade deadline last season as proof of their potential.

Curry noted that the Warriors ranked among the top three in the league in both offense and defense during that stretch. He added that staying healthy and maintaining consistency through the regular season would be essential for success.

The 2024–25 season saw major changes for Golden State, including Klay Thompson’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade deal. The team responded by trading for Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat, exchanging Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and draft picks.

Despite roster changes, the Warriors secured their second consecutive play-in berth and advanced past the first round of the playoffs as the seventh seed. They defeated the Houston Rockets in a seven-game series but fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals after Curry suffered an injury.

Looking ahead to the 2025–26 season, Curry remains optimistic about the team’s foundation. He emphasized the importance of knowing how to play together, particularly given the experience and basketball IQ of the core trio.

Curry also praised the Warriors’ identity, noting that their teamwork and understanding of each other’s roles could offset age-related concerns. He suggested that smart play and strategic adjustments could allow the team to compete at a high level despite an older roster.
