Sasha Vezenkov remains one of the biggest names in European basketball, but the Minnesota Timberwolves recently investigated the possibility of bringing the Olympiacos star back to the NBA.
According to The Stein Line, Minnesota explored whether a return to the United States could interest Vezenkov shortly before the franchise completed its acquisition of Jonathan Kuminga.
The Timberwolves never reached the point of making a formal contract offer.
Vezenkov reportedly indicated early in the process that he was comfortable at Olympiacos and had little interest in leaving his current situation.
The 31-year-old has strong personal and professional ties to Greece, making another move across the Atlantic difficult to envision at this stage of his career.
“It’s tough now because here is my family, my life,” Vezenkov said. “With Olympiacos we won a lot of stuff. But in my life, I know it’s better to never say never.”
That leaves the possibility of another NBA opportunity technically open, even though Vezenkov appears committed to Olympiacos for the foreseeable future.
The Bulgarian forward has rebuilt his career as one of Europe’s premier players after his lone NBA season with Sacramento.
