The Chicago Bulls have rejected all sign-and-trade proposals for Josh Giddey, sources tell NBA insider Jake Fischer, who reported that the team remains unwilling to discuss such scenarios.
Giddey and the Bulls are at an impasse in contract talks. Chicago has reportedly offered a long-term deal worth around $20 million per year, while Giddey seeks closer to $30 million annually.
Despite multiple teams expressing interest in Giddey, the Bulls have made it clear they will not entertain outside negotiations. “They value Josh Giddey… They are not going to engage in any sign-and-trade scenario,” Fischer noted, via RealGM.
The 22-year-old guard’s restricted free agency complicates the situation. Without a competitive offer sheet, Giddey has limited leverage to push his desired salary closer to $30 million.
Giddey’s representatives have compared his market value to recent contracts signed by Jalen Suggs and Jalen Johnson. Chicago, however, has remained cautious about matching those benchmarks.
Fischer noted that the Bulls traded Alex Caruso for Giddey despite offers involving multiple first-round picks. The franchise views him as a central part of its future roster construction.
There are signs that Giddey wants to remain in Chicago long-term. He has participated in offseason activities with teammates, highlighting his integration into the team despite ongoing contract uncertainty.
The Bulls’ broader plans, including interest in Jonathan Kuminga, influence their salary cap strategy. These considerations could affect how aggressively the front office approaches Giddey’s extension.
One potential path is for Giddey to accept his qualifying offer and play the 2025-26 season under it. This would allow him to enter unrestricted free agency in 2026 with more control over his future.
As training camp approaches, the Bulls’ position remains firm. Unless negotiations see a dramatic shift, Giddey is expected to return under his current contract status for the upcoming season.
