Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic suffered an injury scare on Saturday during Slovenia’s EuroBasket warm-up game against Latvia.
The incident occurred in the third quarter when one of his teammates accidentally fell into his legs, sending Doncic crashing to the floor. He immediately showed signs of discomfort, favoring his right leg as he tried to regain his footing.
After limping off the court, the player made his way to the locker room, raising concern among both Slovenian fans and Lakers supporters. Fortunately, early indications suggest that the injury is not serious.
Doncic later returned to the bench in the second half, sitting alongside his teammates. Reports from Slovenian media outlets noted that the All-Star guard even expressed a desire to re-enter the game.
However, coaching staff and team officials opted against it, prioritizing his long-term health and erring on the side of caution given his importance to both the national team and his NBA franchise.
The timing of this scare comes shortly after Doncic finalized a lucrative three-year contract extension with the Lakers, projected at $160.8 million.
The deal secures his future in Los Angeles through at least the 2028–29 season, with a player option that could give him control over his next career move at the end of the contract.
