Jonathan Kuminga is still taking his time before he signs the latest contract offers, especially from the Golden State Warriors.
General Manager Mike Dunleavy is pursuing Jonathan Kuminga, as they offered $45 million contract over two years.
Kuminga is not interested in being a second option, said Slater, per ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
“Beyond the contract demands, Kuminga is in search of a more guaranteed, consistent starting role and featured opportunity, sources said. That’s something both the Suns and Kings have pitched. Kuminga would be a significant part of the Warriors’ rotation to open next season, and they’ll need his supplementary scoring on nights that either Steph Curry, 37, or Jimmy Butler, 35, rest. That’s something head coach Steve Kerr has voiced to Kuminga in recent weeks. Kerr has been one of the leading voices trying to patch this together,” sources said.
“But Kuminga no longer wants to be a secondary option or a fallback plan, fearing a minimization in important moments. He scored 18, 30, 23, and 26 points in the final four playoff games against the Minnesota Timberwolves after Steph Curry went down.”
Warriors’ head tactician Steve Kerr was one of the leading voices for the team.
The 22-year-old wing seemed to be the future of the Golden State, some said the successor of franchise star Stephen Curry. However, he wasn’t likely to be the right fit with the system produced, especially in unlocking his full potential.
The Golden State’s offseason business is currently on pause, with no signs of movement at all until now.
Kuminga was recently seen in a workout in Miami, as he explores more opportunities outside during the offseason.
Back in 2022, the 6-foot-7 forward won his first NBA title, becoming the second youngest champion in league history, contributing a major impact in their championship run.
Kuminga has been growing rapidly, including his stats from his rookie season up to the recent season.
In his first year, he is averaging 9.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game, while 20.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in his fourth year last season.
The Golden State drafted him first round, seventh overall pick, and he made his NBA debut in October 2021.
