The Washington Wizards have officially re-signed veteran forward Anthony Gill to a one-year contract, as confirmed by NBA.com’s transactions and reported by Michael Scotto and Josh Robbins.
Gill, who has spent the last five seasons with the Wizards, was initially waived in late June before his $2.5 million salary for the 2025/26 season became guaranteed. However, both parties expressed interest in reuniting, so his return was widely expected.
Undrafted out of Virginia in 2016, Gill began his professional career overseas, playing in Turkey and then three years in Russia with EuroLeague team Khimki.
His strong international play helped him secure multiple contracts with Washington, which remains his only NBA team to date.
Now approaching 33, Gill appeared in 51 games last season, averaging 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in just under 8 minutes per game. He was also linked to several EuroLeague teams this summer.
The new deal is beneficial for both sides: Gill will earn slightly more on a veteran’s minimum contract than he would have on his previous deal, while the Wizards reduce their salary cap hit thanks to the league’s reimbursement policy.
With Gill’s signing, the Wizards now have 16 players under standard contracts – one over the regular-season limit – which could put a recent addition like Malaki Branham or Dillon Jones at risk of not making the roster if Gill stays.
