The Washington Wizards have waived veteran forward Anthony Gill ahead of Monday’s contract guarantee deadline, according to a report by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Gill, 32, was on a non-guaranteed $2.55 million deal for the 2025-26 season. Releasing him before the deadline means Washington avoids that salary hitting the books, but league sources told Scotto that a reunion remains a possibility later in the offseason.
The former Virginia standout spent five seasons with the Wizards after arriving from EuroLeague club Khimki Moscow in 2020. Gill appeared in 230 regular-season games during his tenure in D.C., averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game.
In 2024-25, the veteran played 51 games and logged just 7.8 minutes per contest, his lowest mark since his rookie year. He averaged 2.5 points while shooting 48.9% from the field and 32.3% from beyond the arc.
Though his role was limited, Gill was respected inside the Wizards’ locker room for his professionalism and mentorship on a rebuilding roster. He started only 15 games across five seasons and made just one playoff appearance in 2021, when Washington was eliminated in the first round.
