Luka Doncic has fully embraced his role as the face of the Los Angeles Lakers—and he’s making it clear that he wants top talent around him to bring another title to the franchise.

In a report by The Athletic‘s Dan Woike, Doncic’s manager Lara Beth Seager confirmed the All-NBA guard is all-in on building something lasting in Los Angeles. “He wants to get the best players here. He wants to win, and he knows it starts with him,” Seager said.

Doncic officially committed to the Lakers this offseason after being traded from Dallas six months ago. The 26-year-old referred to the move as “an honor” and credited the organization’s culture as a deciding factor in re-signing.

Rob Pelinka, the team’s general manager, opened Doncic’s extension press conference by calling him “the best young basketball player in the universe,” highlighting the significance of the long-term deal.

Despite a first-round playoff exit last season, Doncic remained undeterred. Seager told The Athletic that Luka “has moved on” from his Dallas exit and is focused solely on winning in Los Angeles. “His mindset has never been to hop around. His mindset is to win championships,” she said.

The Lakers front office worked closely with Doncic this offseason to reshape the roster. That effort resulted in major acquisitions, including DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart—moves Doncic supported directly.

“We feel like getting DeAndre was huge,” Pelinka said. “And being able to add Marcus—defensive player of the year—not only helps us defensively but puts the league on notice.”

Doncic admitted he was more involved in recruiting this time around, something he previously avoided. “To build a team to win the championship… Now I’m happy they’re on my team,” he said.

He also spoke about taking a month off from basketball after the season, using the time to reset mentally and physically. Improved conditioning and a renewed focus on defense were points of emphasis during his offseason training.

Even as he adjusts to life in Los Angeles, Doncic’s goals remain rooted in consistency and loyalty. “As long as he’s signed with a team, it’s a marriage,” Seager said. “You’re loyal and you’re faithful through it all.”
