Lauri Markkanen is set to be the captain and standout player for Team Finland in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament, representing the only current NBA player on the Finnish roster, according to Eurohoops.net.
While Markkanen is the sole NBA athlete competing, the Finnish squad will also benefit from NBA experience on the coaching staff, with Sean Sheldon, an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz, joining as one of the team’s assistant coaches.
During the group stage of the tournament, which kicks off on August 27, Finland will face a challenging slate of opponents, including Sweden, Great Britain, Montenegro, Lithuania, and Germany.
These matchups will be crucial as the team aims to advance deeper into the competition with Markkanen leading the charge on the court and Sheldon providing strategic support from the sidelines.
