Luka Doncic’s extension with the Los Angeles Lakers drew attention from across the NBA — including from the team’s biggest name of the past decade.
According to Marc Stein’s report on The Stein Line, LeBron James personally FaceTimed Doncic on Saturday morning to congratulate him on his new three-year, $165 million max extension.
James and his son Bronny were notably absent from the Lakers’ official press conference introducing Doncic’s deal, but the virtual gesture signaled clear respect between the two stars.
Doncic, 26, committed his immediate future to the Lakers by signing a contract that includes a player option in 2028. The structure gives him flexibility while anchoring the team’s long-term plans around him.
The deal also sets the stage for a record-setting payday in the next cycle. If Doncic picks up the option and remains eligible, he could become the first player to sign a five-year, $417 million supermax extension in 2028.
Beyond re-signing, the All-NBA guard was active in shaping the Lakers’ roster. He helped recruit Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton during free agency.
Austin Reaves, another key piece of the roster, was unavailable for the press conference as he continues his signature shoe tour in Asia with Rigorer.
