Jack McVeigh is back on the market, and he’s not short on options.

According to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc, the Tasmania JackJumpers have released McVeigh from the final year of his contract, relinquishing their right of first refusal through 2027. This opens the door for the 29-year-old forward to sign elsewhere, including a possible NBA return.

Two NBL teams — the Cairns Taipans and Illawarra Hawks — are currently pursuing McVeigh, per Uluc’s report. Both clubs are expected to present formal offers in the coming days.

However, McVeigh’s top priority remains rejoining the NBA, a goal he continues to actively pursue. High-level EuroLeague clubs have also shown interest, and sources told ESPN that those offers are being seriously considered.

McVeigh played for the Houston Rockets on a two-way contract during the 2024–25 season. While he logged only nine NBA appearances, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and shot 37% from three in 37 G League games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The Australian native stood out in the 2025 NBA Summer League with the Atlanta Hawks, posting 14.0 points per game on 58.8% shooting. He also hit 45.5% of his threes across four games, further boosting his stock.

McVeigh made history last season by becoming the first NBA player to wear jersey No. 58, honoring the sum of his four previous jersey numbers from college, NBL, and international play.

Tasmania expressed disappointment over his departure but acknowledged McVeigh’s need to explore professional opportunities abroad. “We respect Jack’s decision making and understand that he needs to do what is best for himself and his family,” said JackJumpers GM Darren Smith.

The club said it made every effort to bring McVeigh back, but ultimately accepted his request for release. The JackJumpers will now focus on finalizing their NBL26 roster without one of their cornerstone players.
