Six months after the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, he’s now eligible for a contract extension without previous limitations.

The Lakers can offer him a four-year, $222.4 million deal starting in 2026/27.

However, financial experts believe Doncic might opt for a three-year, $160.8 million deal with a player option in the third year, allowing him to cash in on a larger super-max contract in 2028 when he hits 10 years of NBA experience.

The Lakers would be eager to lock him in, as his current deal pays about $46 million in 2025/26 with a $49 million player option the following year.

All signs suggest both sides are working toward an agreement, especially with Doncic helping recruit players like Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart.

While there was talk of a delay due to his national team duties, a deal could come together as soon as this weekend during his U.S. tour with Jordan Brand.
