
Jan Vesely has officially announced that he will retire from professional basketball following the 2025-26 season, ending one of the most successful careers in modern EuroLeague history.
The 36-year-old Czech veteran will play one final season with FC Barcelona Bàsquet before stepping away from the game.
Vesely shared an emotional message on Instagram reflecting on his career across Europe.
“After many unforgettable years, the time has come to close the chapter of my basketball journey,” he wrote.
“From Belgrade to Istanbul and to Barcelona I was privileged with countless battles, outstanding teammates, coaches, most loyal fans, many victories and tough losses, a whirlwind of emotions and a collection of memories that will stay with me forever.”
“I gave everything I had to this game, and it gave me even more in return. I leave with gratitude and pride.”
Vesely began his career in the Czech Republic before rising to prominence with KK Partizan and later being selected sixth overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2011 NBA Draft.
After his NBA stint, Vesely became a EuroLeague star with Fenerbahçe Beko, winning the 2017 EuroLeague title and the 2018-19 EuroLeague MVP award.
He retires as one of the most accomplished players in EuroLeague history, ranking among the league leaders in points, rebounds, steals and performance rating.
