Since entering the league in 2009, Jrue Holiday has earned a reputation as one of the NBA’s most adaptable guards. Now with the Portland Trail Blazers, Holiday continues to push back against the idea that his game fits into a single positional box.
“I think I play every position,” he declared. “I’ve proven that and shown that throughout my career. I’m a complete basketball player. You can’t put one position on someone, the way the game is changing now. Guys who have never played point guard are coming into the league and playing point guard. I’m a good fit with anyone.”
The veteran guard’s career supports his claim.
From his early years as a primary ball-handler in Philadelphia, to his championship run with Milwaukee, to his recent stint with Boston, Holiday has played on and off the ball, guarded positions 1 through 3 (and sometimes even 4), and made clutch plays on both ends of the court.
In Portland, he’ll likely toggle between roles, mentoring Scoot Henderson and occasionally running the offense himself. For Holiday, basketball isn’t about positions – it’s about impact.
“I’ve played with dominant ball-handlers. I’ve played with scorers. I’ve been a floor general. I’ve done all of it,” Holiday said. “And I’m still getting better.”
