Jrue Holiday, the veteran guard recently acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers from the Boston Celtics, is optimistic about his ability to co-exist with young standout Scoot Henderson in the Blazers’ backcourt – even if it means adjusting to a new role.

“Scoot is aggressive,” Holiday said, via Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report. “How he gets to the basket is amazing. Me being able to space the floor and shoot the three is something that will help him out. Being able to play off him and knowing that Scoot is the next one up and [helping him] showcase what he can do.”

While Henderson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is seen as the franchise’s long-term point guard, early projections have him coming off the bench this season.

The veteran guard is expected to start alongside Shaedon Sharpe, giving Portland a more experienced and defensively solid backcourt to begin games.

But for Holiday, a two-way player known for both his defensive toughness and unselfish play, the roles are flexible. His emphasis is on winning and uplifting teammates.

“It’s not about me trying to be the main guy,” Holiday implied through his tone. “It’s about creating an environment where younger players like Scoot can thrive.”

With the ability to spot up from deep and defend multiple positions, Holiday envisions himself not as a barrier to Henderson’s rise, but as a bridge.
