Coming off a 2024 championship run with the Boston Celtics, Jrue Holiday finds himself in a very different situation. Instead of chasing banners with a contender, he’s now part of a Trail Blazers team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2021.
That doesn’t mean he’s lowering his expectations.
“[I’m coming in] not just help out as much as possible, but try to win,” Holiday emphasized. “They have a great coaching staff that have done a lot, and a Hall of Fame coach in Chauncey (Billups).
“But I think as a current player who’s been through it not too long ago, as far as going through the struggle to win a championship, I still have that feeling and that itch. I’m closer to what that feeling is and how hard it is to actually win.”
Holiday’s experience is rare. He’s been part of winning cultures and rebuilt rosters. That unique perspective makes him a valuable presence in a locker room full of rising stars like Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.
Though Portland may be a few steps away from true contention, Holiday is not in wait-and-see mode. He’s aiming to compete now – and bring others along with him.
