The Sacramento Kings are reportedly exploring trade options involving either Malik Monk or Devin Carter in order to finalize a potential deal with free agent guard Russell Westbrook.

According to Matt George of ABC10, Sacramento has maintained mutual interest with Westbrook since free agency began, but cap and roster limitations remain a hurdle.

Westbrook, a former MVP and nine-time All-Star, is coming off a season with the Denver Nuggets where he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds over 75 games.

The veteran also contributed 11.7 points per contest in the 2025 postseason, primarily in a bench role.

Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports reported that discussions between the Kings and Westbrook have been ongoing “for a while,” adding there’s an “80-20” chance the deal gets completed.

New general manager Scott Perry is reportedly high on Westbrook’s leadership and experience, viewing him as a fit alongside Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan.

But Sacramento’s crowded backcourt remains a sticking point.

Carter, a 23-year-old rookie guard, appeared in 36 games this past season, averaging 3.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in limited minutes.

He is on a four-year, $22 million rookie contract, with team options in years three and four.

Monk, meanwhile, just completed the first year of a $78 million contract and posted a career-high 17.2 points and 5.6 assists per game over 65 appearances in 2024–25.

The 27-year-old has been a valuable sixth man but would be difficult to retain alongside Westbrook due to financial and usage considerations.
