The Philadelphia 76ers have waived guard Ricky Council IV, according to a report by HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto.
The move ends Council’s two-year stint with the franchise, where he developed from an undrafted rookie to a full-roster contributor.
Council, 23, originally joined the Sixers on a two-way contract shortly after the 2023 NBA Draft. Despite being waived before the season began, he returned days later on another two-way deal and eventually earned a standard contract in April 2024.
He made his NBA debut on January 2, 2024, in a win over the Chicago Bulls, and posted a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Washington Wizards the following month.
In 73 games during the 2024–25 campaign, Council averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. His shooting percentages dipped from the previous season, finishing at 38.2% from the field and 25.8% from three-point range.
He also spent time with the Delaware Blue Coats, where he showed high-scoring potential in the G League. In two games this past season, Council averaged 34.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 37.6 minutes while shooting 47.8% from the field.
