Veteran center Chimezie Metu was reported earlier this month to be on the verge of securing a contract with the Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce. However, according to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.com, the negotiations ultimately fell apart during the final stages.

Urbonas shared that Metu had already arrived in Istanbul and was prepared to put pen to paper with the reigning EuroLeague champions before the deal suddenly collapsed.

Although Urbonas did not provide specific details about why the talks broke down, it is important to note that the player is currently recovering from a significant Achilles tendon injury he sustained in March.

Sources close to the situation suggest that Fenerbahce’s willingness to commit was contingent, at least in part, on how well Metu’s rehabilitation was progressing, which may have contributed to the uncertainty surrounding the agreement.
