Brooklyn Nets coach praised Cam Thomas as “one of the best scoring guards in the league” while the 23-year-old remains a restricted free agent with little external interest so far.
Keith Smith of Spotrac reported the coach said, “We love Cam. We think he’s one of the best scoring guards in the league, and an underrated playmaker. We’ll see what happens, but our feelings about Cam as a player and person have never wavered. We love him.”
Thomas is coming off his best NBA season, averaging 24.0 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 made threes per game on 43.8% shooting. Despite Brooklyn’s 26–56 record, he was a bright spot in their offense and started 23 of the 25 games he appeared in.
Brooklyn extended Thomas a $5.99 million qualifying offer, officially making him a restricted free agent. The Nets can match any offer sheet he receives, though there have been no reports of serious suitors to date.
Drafted 27th overall in 2021, Thomas has averaged 15.1 points across 215 career games with Brooklyn. His ability to create his own shot and convert at a high rate from both midrange and three-point range has been his hallmark since entering the league.
In 2024–25, he also posted career highs in free throw percentage (.881) and assists. However, concerns about his defense and fit on a winning roster may have tempered outside demand.
The Nets now have the option to re-sign Thomas on the qualifying offer for one year, negotiate a longer deal, or potentially arrange a sign-and-trade if interest develops later this summer.
