Rookie guard Hayden Gray has officially signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Boston Celtics, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.

Gray, who recently completed a standout senior season at UC San Diego, led all of Division I in steals while averaging 11.2 points, 3.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and an impressive 3.1 steals per game across 35 starts.

The 6-foot-4 guard displayed notable efficiency, shooting 47.9% from the field and a strong 41.8% from beyond the arc. A two-year starter for the Tritons, Gray carved out a reputation as a defensive specialist and floor leader.

Gray also participated in the NBA Summer League with the Celtics, appearing in one game where he contributed seven points, two assists, and two steals in 20 minutes of action.

Speaking with CelticsBlog reporter Noa Dalzell, Gray emphasized his defensive instincts and ability to generate extra possessions for his team.

“I’ve got pretty good anticipation, reading the ball handler’s eyes, knowing where they want to go with it,” Gray explained. “I take pride in defense. A lot of teams are really focusing on creating more possessions, and I think I can do that by causing turnovers and also just being a floor general, handling the ball, and setting the table for everyone.”

The Exhibit 10 deal allows the Celtics to bring Gray into training camp with flexibility.

If he is waived before the regular season begins, he would remain eligible for a bonus of up to $85,000 should he join the Celtics’ G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, and remain there for at least 60 days.
