Professional Basketball player, Brian Dux’s successful career was cut short when his car crashed into a Surrey ditch in November 2007. The Guildford Heat player (who was so adored that his young fans copied his haircut) lay undiscovered for over two hours and was in a coma for two weeks. It was a huge local news story and there were messages of support from around the world.

He was flown home to America to continue his long rehabilitation and has never been back to Surrey…until now!

Surrey Scorchers Basketball Foundation are holding a Brian Dux Junior Basketball Tournament on Sunday 17th April at the Surrey Sports Park, Guildford, Surrey in his honour. Brian will be back to see his fans, former team mates and present the cup to the young winners.

The Foundation has started a”Bring Back Brian” campaign to raise money for his first trip to the UK since his accident (#BringBackBrian). Over £300 was raised just through bucket shaking at one Surrey Scorchers game, and an online donation page will go live in the next few days.

The Brian Dux Junior Tournament will run before the last Surrey Scorchers league fixture of the season, which should be a sell out crowd. The UK basketball community has been waiting nearly nine years to see Brian again, so everyone is extremely excited!
