Collin Sexton is embracing his move to the Charlotte Hornets with enthusiasm, calling the opportunity a perfect fit both personally and professionally.
Speaking with The Charlotte Observer, the 26-year-old guard described his reaction to the trade as overwhelming in the best way. “Super excited, super grateful for the opportunity,” Sexton said. “Ready to come in and help build the culture, and just be a leader right away.”
The Hornets acquired Sexton from the Utah Jazz, along with a 2030 second-round pick, in exchange for veteran center Jusuf Nurkic. The move gives Charlotte a proven scorer to pair with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller in the backcourt.
Sexton, who averaged 18.4 points and 4.2 assists on 48.0% shooting last season, has already started practicing with his new teammates. “The last couple of weeks practicing and stuff, it’s been a lot of fun but also getting used to the guys,” he added.
The Georgia native also highlighted the convenience of being closer to his family, noting that Charlotte is just a short drive up I-85 from his hometown of Atlanta. “Oh yeah, the support system that I have back home in Atlanta — it’s only 3½ hours away,” Sexton said. “So, I’m super excited about that.”
For Sexton, the move represents a fresh start with a team eager to build around its young core. “I was just super excited, super ready to get to know the coaches and get to know the organization,” he said.
