Chuma Okeke is set to continue his career in Europe, as Real Madrid is finalizing an agreement with the former NBA forward, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Okeke, 26, became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month after the Cleveland Cavaliers declined his $2.55 million team option. The 2019 first-round pick received interest from several EuroLeague clubs before settling on Real Madrid.

The forward split the 2024–25 NBA season between the Philadelphia 76ers and Cavaliers, appearing in a combined nine regular season games. He averaged 5.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 45.5% from three during his stint in Philadelphia.

After being traded to Cleveland late in the season, Okeke’s role diminished significantly. He logged just two regular season appearances for the Cavaliers and saw sparse minutes in their playoff series against the Indiana Pacers.

Originally drafted 16th overall by the Orlando Magic, Okeke missed his rookie year recovering from a torn ACL. He spent four seasons in Orlando, carving out a role as a defensive-minded forward with occasional three-point range.

In his NBA career, Okeke has played in 198 games, averaging 6.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over five seasons. Despite flashes of strong two-way play, he struggled to secure a consistent rotation spot, particularly in Cleveland’s crowded frontcourt.

Real Madrid, one of Europe’s premier basketball clubs, adds Okeke to bolster its roster ahead of the next EuroLeague campaign.
