The Dallas Mavericks have decided to shut down rookie Cooper Flagg for the rest of the NBA Summer League, according Marc Stein.

Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, impressed in his two appearances in Las Vegas, averaging 20.5 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1 block per game. The 18-year-old forward showcased his defensive instincts and offensive potential despite some struggles with efficiency.

His Summer League debut against the Los Angeles Lakers drew a packed house to the Thomas & Mack Center. Flagg scored 10 points on 5-for-21 shooting but filled the stat sheet with six boards, four assists, three steals, and a crucial block in the final minute to help Dallas secure an 87–85 win.

In his second outing Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs, Flagg erupted for 31 points on 10-of-21 shooting, including three made three-pointers, though Dallas fell short, 76–69. He added four rebounds and went 8-for-13 from the free-throw line in the loss.

The Mavericks reportedly opted to shut him down to preserve his health and allow him to prepare for training camp. The team had already seen enough from their top pick to feel confident about his readiness for the upcoming NBA season.

Ryan Nembhard and Miles Kelly were among the other standouts for Dallas in Summer League play, with Nembhard leading the team to victory over the Lakers and Kelly contributing double-digit scoring in both contests.
